Paying tribute to top styles from decades past, the NYFW Fall/Winter 2016 lines displayed an ecclectic array of trends for the season ahead.
While the 60's and 70's are continuing full-force from last season with the help of Anna Sui's signature groovy flower child designs, DKNY faced a brand revival. Public School designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osbourne headed a second season as brand designers with a new take on what DKNY stands for.
Alexander Wang paid tribute to 90's grunge punk, a remarkable contrast to his final season with Balenciaga only months before, with a seemingly pop-culture and social media centric campaign. Tommy Hilfiger let us escape to a prehistoric time before social media- the 1940's. Hilfiger presented a collection of 1940's nautical with some modern twists- sequin gowns and a black leather and shearling nautical captain's coat.
No matter what decade being shown, fur coats and shearling touches were abundant on and off the runway- a fitting touch considering temperatures declined as low as the negatives. Never have I been so thankful for the blistering Texas heat. Catch me saying that again when summer rolls around and I am sweltering in 110 degrees.
